True Blood is an American television drama series produced and created by Alan Ball. It is based on The Southern Vampire Mysteries Series of novels by Charlaine Harris, detailing the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional, small town in northwestern Louisiana. The series centres on the adventures of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress with an otherworldly quality.
The show was broadcast on the premium cable network HBO in the United States. It was produced by HBO in association with Ball's production company, Your Face Goes Here Entertainment. The series premiered on September 7, 2008, and concluded on August 24, 2014, comprising seven seasons and 80 episodes. The first five seasons of the series received generally favourable reviews, being nominated for and winning several awards, including a Golden Globe and an Emmy.
True Blood was renewed for a seventh season, later announced to be the final one, which premiered on June 22, 2014.

The fictional universe depicted in the series is premised on the notion that vampires exist, unbeknownst to the majority of humans until two years before the series premiere, when the creation of synthetic blood ("Tru Blood") by Japanese scientists allowed vampires to "come out of the coffin" and reveal their existence to the world on the basis that they no longer need human blood to survive. This so-called "Great Revelation" has split the vampires of the world into two camps: those who wish to integrate into human society (aka "mainstream") by campaigning for citizenship and equal rights, and those who think that human-vampire co-existence is impossible because it is in conflict with the inherently violent nature of vampires. Throughout the series, other supernatural creatures are introduced, among them shapeshifters, werewolves, faeries, witches and a maenad.
The series revolves around Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic human-faerie hybrid known as a halfling (not to be confused with similarly named, but unrelated creaturesfound in other fantasy works). Sookie is a waitress at Merlotte's Bar and Grill, owned by Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps. Sam is a shapeshifter, though this secret is kept hidden from most of the town. Other characters include Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a 173-year-old vampire who has returned to Bon Temps to take up residence in his former home following the death of his last remaining relative; Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley), Sookie's tough-talking but insecure best friend; Sookie's womanizing brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten); thousand-year-old vampire and Sheriff of Area 5, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård); and Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis), a short order cook, drug dealer, road crew member and medium.
The show explores several contemporary issues, such as the struggle for equal rights, discrimination and violence against minorities and homosexuals, the problems of drug addiction, the power of faith and religion, the control/influence of the media, the quest for identity and the importance of family.

Now I was sceptical on the beginning; I never watched it straight away. It was only that so many of my friends on Facebook were constantly writing about it on their status’ that I finally decided to give up the ghost on the subject. Not be interest I might add.
I also have to say that I can’t really judge on anything because the whole reason I didn’t give it a go in the first place was because I heard someone say that it was like Twilight but erotica; that sort of put me off. But now, I’ve learned to never listen to what people say about something without personally experiencing it yourself.

I have watched True Blood right up to Season 7 – Episode 8 so far. I am waiting now to watch the 9th episode tomorrow night (1st Sept 2014). I understand that America have already seen and viewed the finale so I have not gone on facebook at all, making sure I don’t see what my American Friends have to say about it Lol

I love the characters; they are all so perfect in the whole world that is ‘True Blood’.
I must say that Jason Stackhouse has to be one of my favourite characters. He’s so simple love him, his whole life revolves around his looks, his sexual appetite and family and friends. He’s really got a heart of gold, just not the smartest tool in the shed Lol
I will give True Blood a 7/10 (so far, due to unseen finale).
I like things that shock me, that keep me on my toes and writings that make me think. Although True Blood isn’t a mental drama, you did on more than one occasion sit back and try and predict the end of the episode because of the twists involved. I’m terrible for looking for flaws in TV and I must say that the only thing that annoyed me was Sookie and her constant love rollercoaster. I know the intention of Charlaine Harris was to make Sookie as adventurous and as interesting as possible but sometimes her antics were just too much like Lol
I guess I preferred Sookie with Bill Compton, and not just because he seemed like the only one who truly loved her, but because they did fit together perfectly. Real life husband and wife! That also makes it even hotter Lol. Should have lasted a lot longer I think.
Sookie and Eric Northman? Emmm not so hot. She doesn’t look like his style at all, his type! But their love scenes could have been better still. Sort lived so not so bad.
Sookie and Alcide Herveaux? Another meeting I wasn’t sure was right. She’s totally not his type! He likes rough biker chicks, not southern bells in flannel dresses Lol Am I right? Haha. Sort lived of course like most of Sookie’s relationships.
Sookie and Macklyn Warlow! WTF!!! When did Sean Slater because so hot with evil sex appeal! I missed this episode and I’m waiting to watch it again when Sky update the boxset because I didn’t see their scene together in fairyland, we had a power-cut
