The book cover - I just had the covers of the Scribes of Medeisia series redone so the paperbacks haven’t been changed yet. So far I have used Regina Wamba (The Singing River), Eden Crane (Redemption series and Thorne Trilogy), LLPIX photography (The Acropolis series), and Frankie Rose (The Scribes Series)
Ellie
The Map at the beginning of the book is fantastic.
Who does your drawings?
R.K Ryals
I designed the map for the series using gimp but then it was redone much better by Frankie Rose.
Ellie
I’m a big fan of WoW (World of Warcraft). Do you play?
R.K Ryals
It’s been a long time since I’ve played WoW, but I played it in college.
Ellie
Your book is about Mages & Scribes, tell us about them?
R.K Ryals
Mages are people born with natural magic in their blood while Scribes are people who aspire not only to learn but to write. They record history.
Ellie
Tell us about the background of the King, Raemon of Medeisia.
R.K Ryals
Raemon is a mad king, the descendant of the legendary King Hedron who lived centuries before. He was the only son of the previous King of Medeisia.
Ellie
And what does king, Raemon have against the Mages & Scribes?
R.K Ryals
Raemon fears knowledge because knowledge is power, and he fears the mages because he fears anything he doesn’t understand. He wants to rule not only Medeisia but Sadeemia as a dictator, and he believes removing those with power and knowledge is the key to doing that.
Ellie
Tell us about Drastona Consta- Mayria.
R.K Ryals
Drastona or Stone as she is often referred, is the bastard daughter of the Ambassador to Sadeemia in Medeisia. She is an aspiring Scribe, but is thrown into a harsh world of survival when the Scribes are disbanded and marked for death.
Ellie
The story starts off with Prince Cadeyrn Forsen Bernhart, son and heir to the Kingdom Sadeemia.
R.K Ryals
He is. Cadeyrn is the second son of the King of Medeisia, and he commands the Sadeemian army. He is very powerful and commands steel. He can also discern lie from truth. Because of his power, he has been a target for assassins since he was a boy and trained accordingly.
Ellie
The King of Sadeemia, Freemont Horan Bernhart VIII.
R.K Ryals
Like Raemon, Freemont is a descendant of the legendary King Hedron from when Medeisia and Sadeemia were once one country. He is married to a princess of New Hope, and he has two sons, Arien and Cadeyrn.
Ellie
Ah so they’re family then haha even more interesting than it was earlier when I was already going to read it, now I MUST!

Ellie
So tell us about the Kingdom/Country of Sadeemia.
R.K Ryals
Sadeemia is a prosperous kingdom located on the sea. It is a thriving sea port and crucial for trade. The streets are clean and sanitary as are their people. It is ruled by a king but also a council for the people with the Minister of Government at its head. There are two schools in Sadeemia, one in Majesta that trains mages and another in the city of Quills that trains Scribes. Sadeemia has a tremulous relationship with Medeisia, as its people are repressed and live in filthy cities under a mad dictator where magic and knowledge have been outlawed.
Ellie
Gerod Consta-Mayria.
R.K Ryals
Garod is the Ambassador to Sadeemia in Medeisia and Drastona’s father.
Ellie
What is the Dragon Pendant?
R.K Ryals
The dragon pendant is a necklace gifted to the king of Medeisia hundreds of years before. It was forged by dragonfire and gave its wearer power. The pendant was later split in a failed assassination attempt, each half worn by warring twin princes. A desert formed between the kingdoms because the pendant was halved, which is how Sadeemia and Medeisia came to be.
Ellie
Excellent. Thanks R.K. Now I just wanna say that your work is beautifully presented by the way. What type of response do you get from readers or critics? Have you ever been told to tone it down a little? Or you need more?
R.K Ryals
Thank you! I have gotten a lot of wonderful responses about the Scribes of Medeisia series. It truly is a series that means the world to me. This world, these characters, have completely overwhelmed me. In a good way of course. But not all readers will be happy with the story, the ones who are, haven’t told me to tone down or add anything to it.
Ellie
Well that’s excellent then, no bad press haha can’t go wrong. Well, thank you so much for doing this, R.K, I hope you enjoy the blog chat and I’m looking forward to part two of this, on the other show Author2Author Blog Chat 2014.

You guys should follow on over now and read part two of this exclusive spotlight with Author R.K. Ryals.

Here is a little excerpt of Tempest that R.K has provided us with and she’s going to read it for us as well…
R.k Ryals
And then I lost my battle with the wind, just remembering to turn my head so that when I fell onto Oran, it was with my cheek, my nose and mouth open and uncovered. It put me eye to eye with Lochlen. His reptilian eyes were dilated, his pupils blackening his gaze.
“It ends soon,” he promised.
His eyes stayed locked on mine, and I concentrated on that. Lochlen, my dragon. I’m not sure when I had started seeing him that way. It was a strange connection I’d felt since I’d first met him at the edge of the Ardus. Not a love at first sight romantic kind of feeling; he was a dragon after all. More of an I need you kind of feeling; a friendship that seemed to start without words.
I was so tired. The wind bore down on us so roughly I felt like I couldn’t breathe. And maybe I couldn’t. There was no room under the fabric for all of us to breathe, no oxygen left. The wind was stealing it all away.
“Just a little longer,” Lochlen yelled, his eyes on mine.
My face was pressed so deeply into Oran’s fur that I could almost smell the forest on him, the hair tickling my nose.
“Don’t let go!” Kye ordered from above me, his voice firm, commanding.
The flat, thick tent was lifting, and I knew the men were losing their battle with the wind.
“Don’t let go!” Kye yelled. “Remember why we came!”
I tried lifting my head, but between the wind, the fabric, and Kye, I couldn’t move at all.
“Can’t breathe!” Daegan panted. “Can’t ...”
“Can’t breathe,” I agreed, my voice a whisper.
No one heard me.
