Simon (quoted by site...)
Simon Okill lives with his wife, Shirlee Anne and their
cat, in a pretty coastal town in South Wales, UK. After a serious accident at
work, he was forced into early retirement due to disability. Simon used his
newfound skills as a writer to help with his depression. His writing became
more serious as certain A-list actors expressed interest in his scripts and his
debut novel Nobody Loves a Bigfoot Like a Bigfoot Babe was accepted by
Christopher Matthews Publishing. One dark night I dreamt I was roaming the deep woods as a
Bigfoot when I came across a harem of Bigfoot Babes, all shimmering
blond. At the time I was suffering with depression. For once I remembered
my dream and started to put it down on my hard drive. And do you know what, as
I continued to write, my depression slowly fizzled away. So I owe my newfound
freedom from depression to my Bigfoot tribe of Olaaa, Maaawooo, Teeelaaa and
the blond Bigfoot Babes.
If you ever want to take a vacation from life's tedium,
try a trip to Big Beaver and taste Abe's wondrous beer or go fishing for
steelhead or just amble through the woods where you might just spot the Phantom
Bigfoot doing what he knows best.
We’re here today to not only
talk about the fantastic Mr Simon Okill but his book; Nobody Loves a Bigfoot Like a Bigfoot Babe, which is not only available
to download but also on paperback. Let’s get to the questions then I’ll give
the grand details of your work.

So hun, tell everyone a little
more about yourself?
Well, Ellie, I am closing in on 56 years on this
planet and for the last 15 of those I have been writing on and off while
working. After my early retirement due to an accident I concentrated on writing
as a form of therapy. Being published was the next step. I love beach walks,
collecting fossils and interacting with other authors.
How would you describe your
book?
Nobody Loves a Bigfoot Like a Bigfoot Babe is a wild ride into the wilds
of N. California, full of adult humour laced with romance, drunken debauchery
and just plain fun.
What Genre is
your work mainly? Do you tend to stay in the same vein or are you hoping (if
not already) to explore new ventures?
Adult humour – adult romance – urban fantasy all describe
my debut novel. I am currently writing an erotic horror vampire story set in an
asylum.
What
inspired you to write your book?
Well,
believe it or not, after a wild night of watching Twin Peaks/Super Troopers I
had a vivid dream about the FBI and Bigfoot. The dream was so stupid I had to
rush downstairs and start writing it at 2am before it fizzled away.
Who was the easiest
character to write and why? Hardest and why?
Duane was by far the easiest as there’s so much of me in
his character make up. Agent Candice Merlot was very difficult to get just
right. I actually wrote her as a man, doing manly things, being attracted to
her female FBI psych. After the sex change I had to change the psych to a male
and it somehow worked.
Are your
characters based on real people? People you may know or TV/Movie stars?
Well Duane is basically
me, just a whole lot more and originally thought of as James Roday and the
female lead Sheriff Louise Jessop as Maggie Lawson from TV’s Psych. Agent
Willis would be Timothy Olyphant and Chief Mockingbird is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
I love Joseph
Gordon-Levitt!! School-girl crush haha!
Without
giving anything away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in 'your book'?
When Agents Willis and Merlot confront the town plumber,
Walt, they get more than they bargained for. Walt is in his spaceship – a sauna
and floating free in a hot tub. The interrogation is extremely stupid and ends
with Merlot getting all icky at the site of Walt in all his glory.
If your book
had a theme song, what would it be and why?
I wrote the Bigfoot Ballad and it is sung by Duane and
Mockingbird at the local watering hole. The first line from the chorus is the
book’s title.
Do you listen
to music while you write your bool, if so ... what songs?
I like peace and quiet to write. When I’m done for the
day I do like to plug into UTube and listen to Roxy Music, The Doors, Jimi
Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane.
What’s up
next for you?
My two part vampire story Eternally Yours is almost
complete and with it I might go self-publish. Not too sure yet, but the idea of
deciding the price of my books is very appealing. Bigfoot 2-7 are in the
planning stage. Also a historical werewolf epic set in Germany WWII is half
written.
What inspired
you to be a writer? Is there anything in particular that spurred you on?
Stephen King’s success spurred me on and my writing also
helped my depression. I am in another world when I write.
What’s came
first the chicken or the egg? Lol
For me the egg came first in the form of screenplays from
which my novels hatched.
Awesome! You wouldn’t believe the responses I get to this
questions and that’s why I ask it, there really is no true answer to the
question only to the person who’s answering it and it’s awesome you answered it
with interpretation to your work. Thank you Simon :D
A little
background into your writing: when did you start? What was your first piece?
First published piece, tell us about your general history…
Around 1998 I first started dabbling with screenplays. No
success nor acquiring an agent which is essential to sell a script. After my
accident I rewrote a screenplay putting in elements of my tumultuous last 6
years and titled it Flip Side. I have a great director attached to the project
and my producer is looking for funding. My first published novel was Nobody
Loves a Bigfoot Like a Bigfoot Babe.
Do you have any favourite books or authors?
Stephen King, Dean Koontz,
Graham Masterton, Alistair McLean – Needful Things, The Watchers, Tengu, The
Golden Rendezvous.
Are you
working on anything else besides this?
I have a graphic novel fully written and am seeking an
artist to go 50-50 on the project. Title is Nightmare Circus where 6 people are
trapped in a ghostly circus and must overcome their fears to escape.
Here could
you give us a few words to people who haven’t yet read your book, sell your
work ;)
Nobody Loves a Bigfoot Like a Bigfoot Babe has been voted
Best Amazon Breakthrough Novel – Best British Fantasy Author and Best Fantasy
Creature Feature Book on Goodreads. It is a gloriously funny read from
beginning to end, full of ludicrous pranks, bar-room brawls, drunken hunters
getting the Bigfoot treatment, a romance left dead for 13 years rekindled in
the most dumbass of ways and The Phantom Bigfoot Bather. It is all neatly
wrapped up in the touristy town of Big Beaver. If you love to laugh then read
it!
