Scarlett Roth loves nothing more than to immerse
herself in a good book. So, the tale of a modern day witch hunt and a sinister
adversary threatening to irrevocably alter a young girl’s life forever should
be the perfect story in which to lose herself. Unfortunately for her, this is
not another book, she’s the girl, the threat is real and she will unearth one
of the modern world’s darkest secrets – the witch trials are not over, they
have evolved.
Scarlett’s life is thrown upside down when she
starts having terrifying visions. Her only comfort in a strange new town comes
in the form of Jake, the enticing and popular centre of seemingly everyone’s
attention. But the more she learns about her ‘power’, the more she realises her
interest in him is drawing unwanted attention of the darkest kind.

So hun, wanna tell our
readers a little bit more about yourself?
Well, I wear many hats…wife, mum, author, PR person, fan girl (serious fan girl over various things and people!) and book freak/geek…you choose the word!
PMSL!! Yeah I hear
ya gurl, I hear ya! <3 nbsp="" span="">3>
How would you describe
your book?
The Foresight Series is a YA trilogy laced with the paranormal, some HUGE secrets and a kick-ass romance with its own little ‘complications’.
What Genre is your work
mainly? Do you tend to stay in the same vein or are you hoping (if not already)
to explore new ventures?
This series is solely YA Paranormal but I certainly wouldn’t pigeon –hole myself into only ever writing that style. I think I will stay in YA, because that is what I love to read and write, but I am open to exploring as many avenues and ideas as my brain can throw at me! As long as there are stories coming together, I don’t mind so much!
What inspired you to
write your books?
I have always written; so for me. It was mainly about finding ‘the’ story. It took me a long time to have an idea I felt really worked as a novel. After I had the snippet of an idea, I just started researching themes that would help me draw out the characters and plot to its potential and Salem with its Witch Trial history was perfect. I had visited there in my teens and I loved it so it all came together.
Who was the easiest
character to write and why?
Hardest and why?
Scarlett, my main character, was the easiest for me because I felt very early on I knew exactly how she would react to things. Having been a teenage girl once upon a time definitely helped! I suppose the hardest for me was Mr Mayer Senior. I won’t go into detail here so as not to give anything away, but he is rude and intimidating so I had to think hard about his dialogue and how to make his actions speak for him to the reader.
Are your characters based
on real people? People you may know or TV/Movie stars?
No not intentionally; though I suppose you see and hear things you may draw on, certain characteristics for example. I have been told by a few people that they think I wrote a lot of me into Scarlett…again not intentional, but you write what you know!!
Without giving anything
away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in your book?
One of my favourites even though it isn’t particularly crucial to anything is the first time Scarlett goes to her new school. I really enjoyed writing the first interaction between her and the ‘cool’ kids. Another is when Scarlett and Jake have their first date…. I LOVED writing that part.
It was sweet!
If your book had a theme
song, what would it be and why?
I have been thinking about this lately and I find it so hard to pick one! I would prefer to know what my readers hear as a soundtrack….please let me know! I think whatever it is; it has to be very atmospheric and quite epic as there is so much bubbling away under the surface with the first book ad it only gets bigger!
Do you listen to music
while you write your books, if so; what songs?
I don’t. I can’t concentrate properly with my music on because I get all distracted and start singing at the top of my lungs if a song I love comes on!
Okay and what’s up next
for you?
Ashes is out on 16th April so I am just finishing off the sign offs for the cover and working on promotion ideas for that. I am so excited because I really feel that fans of Embers will enjoy this book and all that happens for Scarlett. It is darker and maybe ‘grittier’ too so lots to look forward to!
What inspired you to be a
writer? Is there anything in particular that spurred you on?
I have always just been obsessed with words and writing so it just always felt like what I wanted to do. One of my stories did get read out at story time at school and it definitely motivated me keep writing.
Is there anyone else
besides you in your family who write?
Nope…just me. Though we are a creative lot in general; my eldest brother is an illustrator and designed my covers.
Oh seriously!! Does he
wanna do mine haha! ;)
Do you have any other
Talents or hobbies other than your literary wand?
When I am not writing I am being mummy to my little boy, which I love….he keeps me busy!
And he's such a lush
little bugger as well hun, he's so adorable and I hope he feels better from the
other day ~Big hugs~
What’s came first the
chicken or the egg? Lol
Egg, no chicken, no egg….Aaargghh ***brain explodes***
Lol I love that question
lol The answers are awesome :P
A little background into
your writing: when did you start?
What was your first piece?
First published
piece, tell us about your general history…
I have been writing since I was five years old…obviously some of my older work may be of questionable standard! I studied Journalism at university and wrote for lots of magazines and newspapers while I was there which was amazing. Getting a byline on a news piece was brilliant and it was little steps like that, that reaffirmed for me that I wanted to write all the time!
Do you have any favorite
books or authors?
I cannot pick one I don’t think…but I have enjoyed some really great YA reads lately, including The Blessed by Tonya Hurley and Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake.
Are you working on
anything else besides this?
I am a book reviewer and columnist for Gliterary Girl too.

The best compliment I can pay this book (the best
compliment you can pay ANY book) is to declare it a "page turner". I
read it in three sittings; as a pre-sleep read which had me turning pages so
eagerly that it went way beyond my standard bedtime, a 04:00 - 07:00 read;
result of not being able to sleep (probably because I needed to know what
happened) and a quick half an hour to conclude while sat in my office (the
beauty of the ipad - makes it so easy to disguise work).
The tiredness I now feel was worth it; this was quite simply a great read. It transcends 'genre preference' with a bewitching ability to make you keep on reading from first page, to last.
Like any addictive story; it leaves you frustrated that there isn't more to read RIGHT NOW.
Cast all pre conceived ideas of this genre aside and just read this book; I can guarantee you won't be able to put it down when you have.
FIVE STARS.

When I started reading this book I found that I
could relate to the main character as I also moved recently and starting new in
a new area and school and making new friends is scary, but I didn't have some
of the same situations as Scarlett did. I really enjoyed this book and often
couldn't put it down, and when I did I was always thinking about what was going
to happen next in the story. This book kept me on my toes and anxious for what
was going to happen, I thought this book was a really unique story and one that
I haven't heard of or read about before. I think the topic of witches and the
Salem witch trials was a very good idea to do a story on as its a interesting
topic and incorporates some history into the book too. So if you're interested
in a new book from a new author, that's unique that there is nothing else like
it out there, then read embers, you wont regret it and like me you may find
yourself desperately waiting for the next one.
