David
Hi Danni! (Ellie)

Ellie
Hey David!
Thank you for joining me on this, I do appreciate it.
Hello again readers, this is your host Author, Ellie Williams, and today Author2Author BC are speaking with none other than Author, David C Cassidy!
It is a pleasure, sir.

David
Pleasure is all mine, Danni (Ellie).

Right and before we begin here’s a little introduction to the man sitting opposite me, Author David C Cassidy.
David is the twisted mind behind the best-selling dark thriller, Velvet Rain, and the supernatural thriller, Fosgate's Game. An author, photographer, and graphic designer—and a half-decent juggler—he spends his writing life creating dark and touching stories where Bad Things Happen To Good People. Raised by wolves, he grew up with a love of nature, music, science, and history, with thrillers and horror novels feeding the dark side of his seriously disturbed imagination. He talks to his characters, talks often, and most times they listen. But the real fun starts when they tell him to take a hike, and they Open That Door anyway. Idiots.
David lives in Ontario, Canada. From Mozart to Vivaldi, classic jazz to classic rock, he feels naked without his iPod. Suffering from MAD—Multiple Activity Disorder—he divides his time between writing and blogging, photography and photoshop, reading and rollerblading. An avid amateur astronomer, he loves the night sky, chasing the stars with his telescope. Sometimes he eats.

Here is a sample for you…
Time stilled. Brikker extinguished the cigarette in a container that, among the throng of spent cancer sticks, held three toenails and the bloodied left lateral and two central incisors of an adult human female. He paused to study them, amazed at the surprising will of the woman. She was remarkable, truly. If only his men were half as strong as she.
He closed the container. He would break her. He would fill this thing if need be.
Brikker stepped to her left. In this dark and hellish chamber, every sound seemed highly tuned and amplified, sharp yet indefinable.
“So . . . what do we know? Hmmm? What do we know.”
Sarah-Jane stiffened. Her eyes darted as those elusive footfalls came again.
She uttered a small shriek when Brikker touched her.
“Shhhhh.” He was right behind her now, whispering from the dark. He stroked her scalp with an ochred finger stained from a lifetime of smoking, let it run along the imperfect form of her skull; let it trace the four black digits tattooed there. Someone—that cursed Richards, he supposed—might have found her attractive. He found her repulsive. Most women were.
“Shhhhh,” he whispered again. “That’s better. Perhaps you’d like something to eat, hmmm?”
The woman tried to nod, but her bonds prevented such an act. She uttered a yes that was hardly discernible.
“Soon,” Brikker told her. “As much as you want.”
The naked woman squirmed, trying to hold it in. Finally, she urinated. Her piddle dribbled over the edge of the chair and pooled at her feet.
“Do you know what day it is?” The words circled in the darkness with Brikker’s every step.
There was no reply. The eyes told him no.
“The month?”
His voice rose slightly.
“Tell me your name.”
There was some hesitation, but then the words came dutifully, if dismally—four digits—not a syllable more. He grinned.
“Do you remember Sarah? Sarah-Jane?”
No reply.
DO YOU REMEMBER SARAH-JANE? The words blasted from the blackness like bullets.
“No.”
She was lying. He could smell deception, as if it were a rotting carcass splayed before him. He stepped into the light, his formlessness becoming form in silhouette. He paused, and then he slapped her with brutal force.
The woman wept. Her breath came as a thin whistle through the wide gap where her upper teeth had been. Her eyes, bulging from her emaciated face, gave her the appearance of a humanoid insect.”

Ellie

Ellie
Now I have carefully selected these questions for you, they are just a little taster of what I have for you over at the Class of 2014 I can tell ya

{They laugh together}

Ellie
Are you ready?
David

Yes!
Ellie
Who does your covers?
David

Being a rather creative soul—and as a graphic designer and photographer—it makes sense for me to do my own covers. I’ve done a lot of them for other authors as well. I’m a little more than obsessed with making things as good as they can be, be it stories or images, so I pretty much tackle everything from start to finish. I’m so obsessed with getting it right that I even format ebooks and design print covers. Nothing gets in without my approval—even in other author’s books that I do covers for.
{David laughs}

Ellie
So you do it all yourself then, even the pictures inside?
David
Yup.
Ellie
Wow! So your opening Prologue – Pretty intense and powerful stuff there, David.
What inspired it all?
David
Believe it or not, the story came to me in an instant. It’s like God whispered in my ear or something.
{They laugh together}

David
I certainly didn’t have all of the details, but I knew the story from start to finish. It was so deep, and so deeply embedded in my mind, that I just had to write it.

Ellie
And tell us about the protagonist—the drifter—Kain Richards.
David
I’ve always been gripped by stories of unique but tragic heroes, especially those with amazing abilities who see their gift as curse. Kain Richards is a victim of being born—and as the last of his kind, a hunted man.
Ellie
David, you’re not just an Author are you? On your website it states that you are also into Photography and Graphic Designing.
Tell us about your Photography

David
Like my writing style—which is very visual—my photography style is a reflection of that. When I’m behind the lens, I push myself to capture the essence of my subject. It doesn’t matter whether I’m doing a portrait or a landscape or a still-life, doesn’t matter whether it’s a pretty face or a pencil—I want the image to say, “THIS IS WHAT I AM.”
Ellie
Tell us about your Graphic designing.
 David
It’s a partnership, it really is. Most authors aren’t photographers or graphics people, and most photographers aren’t writers. Happily, I’m both, and that serves other authors well. When I’m working on someone’s cover, I dig deep. Being an author and an image guy, I don’t just ask a lot of questions (I do)—I ask the right questions. Ones that drive us to the imagery that the book needs to convey. Covers, like great photographs, tell a story. Ultimately, there isn’t a cover I’ve done for other authors that would see the light of day if I didn’t like it. They deserve nothing more than my best effort. I treat their covers like it’s my own cover—something that would rock as a movie poster.
Ellie
Thank you so much for doing this, David. I hope you enjoy the blog chat and if I could, can I ask you to head on over to the Author2Author Spotlight for the new Class of 2014, I’ll meet you over there after I’ve rounded up here.
 David
