Welcoming back ' Samantha Ketteman, this time as a
guest on our Blog chat ‘Author 2 Author’.
Hey hun! Welcome back!! Make yourself at home and
we’ll begin.
So you were here
Sunday (3/3/13) with your deal of ‘5
Day Deal on Amazon…’ This time you’re here actually talking about you book ‘Aphrodite’s
Secret’, and before we get on that can you tell everyone a little about
yourself…
I am a new up and coming author, and just released my first book, Aphrodite’s Secret. I will have another book, Glimpse of Destiny, coming out later this month as well. I suffer from severe diarrhea of the mouth, have no filter, and am a caffeine and nicotine addict. I tend to get lost in my characters, even finding myself dreaming of them. (Weird, right?)

Book Blurb:
Kaira, still reeling from the loss of her younger sister in
a tragic boating accident, lives in the dark world of exotic dancing for
survival. When one man enters her life, her world is turned upside down and
inside out, where reality and fantasy seem to intertwine. Kaira feels the eyes
of a striking man watching her every move on stage. Zane is a scarred man with
many secrets, one of which is the knowledge of who and what Kaira really is and
the danger she will face. While Zane fights a subconscious battle about what to
tell her and whether he cares enough to get involved, another has noticed her
as well. An Ithacan, sent to destroy her for what she is and take her powers to
the God that has commanded all Forgotten be exterminated. The God intends to
absorb her powers and rule absolutely. Before Kaira realizes what is coming for
her, she finds herself tumbling into a world where a scarred man that she is
inexplicably attracted to will become her only hope. A hideous creature, one
such as she’s never seen, is hunting her and trying his best to destroy
everything and everyone she knows to get what he wants for his Master, and only
Zane knows why. While Kaira thinks it coincidence that Zane shows up at the
club the girls like to frequent after work, Zane uses the planned interception
to explore the pull that he feels towards Kaira, when he has cared for no one
but himself for so many years. After finally meeting, Zane notices that the
Ithacan has also followed and as their eyes meet, they both know that the
battle for her soul will come; who will win is less important as the insistence
Zane feels to tell Kaira who and what she is before she ends up like her
sister.

Okay then Hun, lets move
on with these straight forward standard Questions I have set up for ya...
How would you describe your book?
Loving the mythological pull. I'm so hoping there is more of it coming our way.I would describe it as a paranormal romance with touches of urban fantasy and frequent mythological influences.
What Genre is your work mainly?
Do you tend to stay in the same vein or are you hoping (if not already) to
explore new ventures?
I mainly write paranormal romances and/or urban fantasies, though I love mythology and witches. :) I don’t know that I would vary too much from my interests. I don’t think I would enjoy writing on subjects that my interests won’t shine through in.
It’s funny you say that
because I was recently was asked “What do you want
readers to take away from your writing?” And of course that question was quite
a big one and one I’d never encountered until then and I didn’t have an answer.
But then I thought about it and I said “That I’m just as normal and imperfect
as the next person and just because I write doesn’t make me smart or better, or
saner than they are; and that they can be whatever they want to be if they put
their minds to it. Don’t let anyone hold you down, or tell you you’re not good
enough. You have a dream, go get it, if you’re scared, go chase your fears.”
And I truly believe that. But a quote came to mind then and I added “I think
therefore I am” De Carte. And I simply said “I write therefore I am!” Lol I
want people to read my work and come out believing and knowing they can do
anything they want too, just like us. Sorry just had to share that lol ;)
What inspired you to
write your book?
I have been reading full size novels since I was 10. My first novel was The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein. After so many years of reading, I had always dreamed of writing my own. I used to make up stories in my head, and it only took me about 20 years to finally have the confidence to just go for it and write my own.
I couldn't agree more, he is a great inspiration.
Who was the easiest
character to write and why? Hardest and why?
I think the easiest character to write was Jasmine. I know, I know, she’s not the main character, but she reminded me so much of my smart mouthed best friend, and I kept finding myself smiling when I wrote her lines. The hardest to write…. Hmmm… that would probably be the Ithacan. Delving into his warped mind was a little unsettling.
Are your characters based
on real people? People you may know or TV/Movie stars?
Actually, Jasmine was loosely based on my best friend Shauna. The others were just figments of my very active imagination.
Without giving anything
away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in your book?
One of my favorite scenes involves Kaira finally standing up to Honey, another stripper in the club. I don’t want to give too much away, but she finally finds her cojones and shows Honey who the boss is. I also love the scenes between Kaira and Zane. Zane is so hot!
If your book had a theme
song, what would it be and why?
I don’t know if it would have a theme song, but many songs went into the making of it.
Do you listen to music
while you write, if so ... what songs?
Absolutely! Certain music puts me in certain moods. For some of the darker parts, I was hooked on Evanescence. I also frequently listened to Muse, the Fray, Deadmau5, and even some country. (I know. Gah!)
What’s up next for you?
Well, I am finishing up a third book from a third series, but am putting it on hold to write the second book in this series, which will feature Jasmine as the lead, while still continuing Kaira and Zane’s story throughout as well.
What inspired you to be a
writer? Is there anything in particular that spurred you on?
Actually, yes. I read a really BAD book one day (no, I won’t say what it was), and I remember thinking, if this person can do it, I know I can. So, I talked to my mom about it and she was super supportive. She pushed me to chase my dreams.
What’s came first the
chicken or the egg? Lol
LOL! I’m going with the egg. Wanna argue about it? :)
I wouldn’t dream of it
lol ;)
A little background into
your writing: when did you start? What was your first piece?
First published piece,
tell us about your general history…
I started writing Aphrodite’s Secret, which is my first book, in January of 2012. It is also my first published piece thus far, though there are plans to release another first in a different series this month. I came from a family of readers, and have always had a love of books. I went through a Stephen King stage for about 8 years, when his writing was all I would read. Then I stumbled upon J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood, and my love for all things paranormal and weird kicked in.
Do you have any favorite
books or authors?
Oh, tons. I love Stephanie Nelson’s Gwen Sparks series right now, the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the Night Huntress series, I love Stacia Kane’s series…… I could go on and on and on.
Are you working on
anything else besides this?
Yes, I am working on a third series featuring a woman who dies and finds herself in purgatory, having to take on the role of a Reaper (which she sucks at by the way) in order to earn her way back to the Earthly realm. Oh, and she’s totally into herself, which is hilarious. It’s a bit lighter and funnier, but that’s all I’m giving away right now. :)

Here could you give us a few words to people
who haven’t yet read your book (s).
Sell your work ;)
Well, the book is centered around Kaira, who is working as a stripper to pay her bills. She recently lost her sister in a tragic boating accident, though her body was never found. She meets a scarred and dangerously sexy man, who seems to know more about her than he should. She also gets noticed by another creature, who is aware of what she is and wants the powers that she doesn’t realize she has yet. She becomes the hunted, and the truth of her heritage comes out. She struggles to come to terms when her old life is ripped away and she is forced to go on the run, trust a man she barely knows, and fight for her life. There is so much more to the book, but I don’t want to give too much away.
